Put your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Dollars to Work this Summer!

07/06/2015

As summer moves into full swing, now is a good time to take stock of your summer medical must-have’s.  While it may vary by plan design, most regular FSAs cover several items that you may normally purchase as you prepare for the outdoor activities that accompany summer weather.

Sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher is eligible for reimbursement from most health FSAs.  If your plan offers a flex debit card, you may be able to use your card to purchase sunscreen at most major stores and pharmacies.

First aid kits are also eligible for reimbursement from most regular FSAs.  Kits vary in size and contents and can be purchased using your flex debit card if available with your plan.  Bandages and other first aid supplies such as ice packs or heat packs are also eligible for reimbursement.  Over the counter (OTC) medications such as pain relievers or anti-bacterial ointment are only eligible with a doctor’s note stating the specific medical condition as to why the medication is needed.

Prescription sunglasses may also be reimbursed from both regular FSAs and limited purpose FSAs.  Regular sunglasses without prescription lenses are not eligible for reimbursement.

A general list of eligible expenses can be found on our website at www.myCafeteriaPlan.com or by clicking here.
